Where The Audience
Are The Chorus
Performing With Principal Singers From The World
Famous
D'Oyly Carte Opera Company |
 |
 |
London Operetta’s ‘From
Scratch’ performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s
operetta masterpieces have been delighting audiences
at theatres and festivals throughout the country
for a number of years. |
 |
| |
We now have great pleasure in presenting HMS
Pinafore ‘From Scratch.’ This unique
fun-filled production combines lots of great
audience participation with a fully staged and
wonderfully sung performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s
comic masterpiece. |
 |
| |
In the first half of this highly
entertaining performance, Musical Director Ian
McMillan teaches the audience their musical and
dramatic roles as The Gentlemen in the audience
become ‘Sailors’ and The Ladies take
on the roles of Sir Joseph Porter’s ’Sisters,
Cousins and Aunts’. |
 |
| |
In the second half, of the performance,
we bring in our cast of talented professional
soloists (who have worked with companies such
as E.N.O., Scottish Opera, Opera North, New Sadlers
Wells Opera, The Carl Rosa Opera and the D'Oyly
Carte Opera Company) for a fully costumed and
staged performance with the audience singing
the chorus. |

| |
STAGING |
 |
| |
HMS Pinafore From Scratch is very
simple to stage and suitable for a number of
different style venues. We bring a simple set
that represents part of the ship. No flying is
required. We ask the venue to provide; |
 |
| |
A grand or baby grand piano, a
row of rostrum, a white cyclorama backdrop (if
possible), a basic sound system for the Musical
Director which is used during the rehearsal part
of the performance (the actual performance is
acoustic), some good basic lighting and enough
lighting on the audience to enable them to read
their programmes/music scores in comfort. |
 |
| |
2 Dressing Rooms with the usual
facilities. |

| SOME RECENT REVIEWS
FROM OUR ‘FROM SCRATCH’ PERFORMANCES |
 |
| “London Operetta’s
Gilbert and Sullivan From Scratch performances just
get better and better…. We were helped by a
splendid programme and a director who never lost
his sense of humour, though he worked us solidly
for the first hour…. |
 |
| During the second part
(the actual performance) we were treated to some
superb singing from the principals…. John Ayldon’s
(of D’Oyly Carte fame) hilarious performance
as ‘The Sergeant of Police’ (in The Pirates
Of Penzance) should be recorded for future generations”. |

| “This was absolutely
spiffing fun…. Wonderful singing from the cast
of professional singers….. This was better
than the last night of the proms – a great
patriotic, flag waving party. Do whatever you can
to get a seat for the final performance tonight’ |

“A real romp of
an evening…… The audience loved every
minute………………….
Ian McMillan our conductor and director for the evening
had us behaving very badly as ‘The Gentlemen
of The Jury ‘ outrageously flirting with the
delightful Plaintiff ‘Angelina’ and her
team of ‘Bridesmaids’ (The Ladies in
the audience)…….. |
 |
| I had forgotten what
a sparkling gem of an operetta ‘Trial By Jury’ is
and was very happy to renew my acquaintance with
this one act masterpiece. |
